Angèle Dubeau
Angèle Dubeau is one of Canada’s best-known and most awarded violinists; her records are remarkably successful: she is one of the few classical soloists in the world to have received a Gold record for the impressive number of albums sold. Angèle Dubeau won her first major award at the age of 15, while studying at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. She went on to study at the Juilliard School of Music in New York with Dorothy DeLay, and then further refined her musical skills with the great Romanian violinist and teacher Ștefan Gheorghiu, hence her nostalgia and her wish to return to Romania, after more than 30 years. The landmarks of her four-decade-long career are her numerous international prizes, her concerts on some of the most prestigious stages, her 39 albums and her highly successful classical music programs. For 20 years she has been directing „La Fête de la Musique de Mont-Tremblant”, a classical music festival that attracts 35,000 music lovers annually. For her contributions to classical music, to culture and to the public, Angèle Dubeau received numerous distinctions: Honorary Doctor of the Concordia University in Montreal, Member of the Order of Canada, Officer of the Order of Canada, Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, Knight of the Ordre national du Québec, Calixa-Lavallée prize from the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montréal, etc. Angèle Dubeau has sold over 600,000 records; more than 15 million people all over the world have listened to her albums online.

La Pietà
In 1997, Angèle Dubeau founded La Pietà, an all-female chamber ensemble featuring some of the best Canadian musicians; Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà have been invited to perform in great concert halls, and their television appearances confirmed an unexpected success for a classical music ensemble. One of their more recent prizes was the Félix Award (the Quebec equivalent of the US Grammy Awards), which Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà received in 2015 for the album „Ludovico Einaudi – Portrait”, excerpts of which will be played during their Bucharest concert. Five million people all over the world have listened to this album online in only two months.

In 2018 Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà will go again on a European tour dedicated to minimalist composers Ludovico Einaudi and Philip Glass, two of the most prominent figures of international contemporary classical music, remarkably successful with the public, promoters of a consonant style. The program also includes works by other contemporary creators: Michael Nyman (composer of the famous soundtrack of “The Piano”) and Arvo Pärt (the most frequently played contemporary classical music composer in the past five years).

In Bucharest, Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà will perform a single public concert at the Romanian Athenaeum on Saturday, September 29th, called „The World of Ludovico Einaudi and Philip Glass”.
The concert is organized by Societatea Muzicală and supported by the Embassy of Canada in Bucharest.

Two of the most prominent names of contemporary classical music, both are viewed as representatives of the minimalist style, but each has a distinct, unmistakable composition style; both are concerned with the way music conveys emotions, sensations to the audience; both are also remarkably successful with the public, who finds in their works a music built on classical foundations, with an expressiveness adapted to modern man.
Italian Ludovico Einaudi’s albums topped music charts worldwide (and not only classical music ones), while American Philip Glass’ works are now included in the repertoires of the greatest soloists, his opuses being some of the most frequently played in the contemporary American repertoire.
This concert by Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà will be the first time Ludovico Einaudi’s music is played on a Romanian stage; Philip Glass’ music has already been played in Bucharest concerts, both at the Enescu Festival and during the usual season concerts.
