Founded in 1917 by Ada Clement and Lillian Hodghead as the Ada Clement Piano School , the San Francisco Conservatory of Music enrolls 407 graduate and undergraduate students representing over 35 states and 31 countries, as well as educating over 550 preparatory and 305 adult extension students.
Through an intense, personal educational process, students draw on the rich experience of a renowned faculty that includes more than two dozen members of the San Francisco Symphony, Opera and Ballet orchestras, in addition to other acclaimed composers, performers and scholars.
At the Collegiate level SFCM offers the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees, an Artist Certificate in Chamber Music, a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Performance and a Professional Studies Diploma in Instrumental Performance. In August 2006, the Conservatory relocated to an expanded, stateof- the-art facility in San Francisco’s Civic Center, positioning the 91-year-old college of music in the arts nexus of San Francisco, amid Davies Symphony Hall, the War Memorial Opera House and other prominent arts institutions.
