York Early Music Festival is the UK’s premier celebration of historically informed performances, presenting musicians of the highest artistic standards in some of England’s finest historic venues. Established in 1977, run annually each July in the city of York, the festival highlights 500 years of musical history across Europe, from the medieval (1250) to the baroque (1750).

The Festival is programmed by a team of artistic advisers who draw in artists, and audiences, from across Europe and administered through the York Early Music Foundation, a UK registered charity.

The Festival’s success over the past 32 years has enabled the Foundation to restore the previously redundant church of St Margaret’s York to create the National Centre for Early Music, and establish a year-round programme of music concerts, workshops and educational activities which are promoted locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
